Postponed to 2021
Team size: 6–8 participants
Your Youth Venture team will join the ministry of La Casa Grande Benin, a Christian home for children who need food, shelter, love, and a family. La Casa Grande, located in Cotonou, Benin, does not call itself an orphanage because they consider all children part of God's family. The bonding between the 40 brothers and sisters who live at La Casa Grande happens daily as they play, worship, and do chores together. La Casa Grande children have the option of studying or learning a trade such as carpentry or sewing.
La Casa Grande Benin also reaches out to children in the surrounding neighborhood through an innovative education program, Les Leaders (The Leaders) school, through weekly Bible camps, and a weeklong summer camp. "We do everything on the basis of the love of Christ," says Paulin Bossou, director of La Casa Grande. "We are trying to make sure the children can grow up in a Christian environment so that one day, they may also reflect the Lord's love to others, because we have the firm conviction that the world can change with the love of God."
Your team’s average day may consist of teaching English classes, cookie making with the children, tree planting, Bible quizzes, introduction to farm and garden project, jewelry/craft-making for their onsite store, and group games. Your gifts and skills in teaching, music, drama, sports, and art will be well utilized and welcomed, as will your ability to simply play and be present to the children.
In addition to your time with the children you will have time to visit some places of historical significance, and learn more about the culture. Some of these may include:
Your time in Benin will be a great opportunity to brush on your French language skills, or to learn a few words in a new language!

Your accommodations will be on the grounds of La Casa Grande Benin, in a small apartment area.
Travel to location
You will meet your team for orientation in a major U.S. city (yet to be determined). You will need to make your own travel arrangements to the departure city. Details will be forthcoming. Youth Venture will make your travel arrangements from the United States to Benin.
If you do not have a passport, you can download an application at www.travel.state.gov/passport/forms.html
Youth Venture is asking each participant to raise $2,700 USD to help cover team expenses. This amount covers the cost of orientation, travel to the assignment, in-country travel, lodging and food. Participants will need additional funds to cover their health insurance, immunizations, passport, and travel to orientation. Expected contribution is subject to change in the event of significant airline price increases. All gifts are non-refundable and will be used to fund the Youth Venture team ministry in Benin regardless of individual fundraising goals.
