The Welcome Inn Commmunity Centre is a Christian community centre working to alleviate poverty in Hamilton, Ontario. Here people are welcomed, celebrated and empowered to give as well as receive; together, we build capacity in individuals and resilience in our community. Programs include: food bank, children's after-school program, youth arts program, youth drop-in, summer day camp, weekly seniors lunch and recreational activities, seniors visits, financial literacy education for children and adults, thrift store, food literacy programs, Good Food Access Centre, and community building events. SOOP volunteers will have opportunities to participate in and assist with all of the above programs, as well as opportunities for administrative support and building maintenance. Placements are available year-round for short and long term positions. SOOP volunteers are responsible for their own meals and lodging.
