The Catholic Multicultural Center is a social service agency serving the South Madison area and beyond. The Center offers a variety of services to help individuals meet their basic needs and achieve personal growth. Services include English as a Second Language classes, a daily hot meal, employment search assistance, food pantry, public computer lab, immigration legal services, children's programs and more. With a small staff and the help of many volunteers, the CMC serves over 150 people in a typical day.

The CMC offers one-on-one assistance to anyone in need of a job through its bilingual employment search assistance program. The program serves people in a variety of situations, from someone who recently lost a job to immigrants to people needing a second or third job to make ends meet. Staff and volunteers meet with job seekers to guide them in finding employment, assist with translating, and help them overcome barriers to employment. To connect people to jobs, the CMC works with area employers large and small.

The employment search assistance program is heavily utilized and has the potential to serve even more people, given the resources it needs to grow. The Assistant Program Coordinator will aid in the process of launching an updated and expanded employment search assistance program.

General Responsibilities

  • Outreach
    • Obtaining job leads from area employers and staffing agencies
    • Helping form partnerships with employers and other community organizations
    • Promoting the program among job-seekers
  • Guest Assistance
    • Work one-on-one with individuals seeking employment
    • Assist with developing resumes
    • Show guests how to use the computer to search for jobs or fill out online applications
    • Develop framework for teaching guests computer-related job-search skills
  • Resource Referral
    • Work with guests to address barriers to employment
    • Become familiar with and refer guests to other CMC programs
    • Help establish stronger links and a smoother referral process amongst CMC programs
    • Refer to and help guests connect with other community resources for needs that cannot be met at the CMC
  • Evaluation
    • Develop evaluation methods to collect guest feedback and track the number of people obtaining jobs through the program
    • Track the number of guests using the program
    • Track resource referrals

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Strong communication skills, especially face-to-face
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Strong organization and task management
  • Ability to respectfully work with a diverse group of individuals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in Spanish is helpful
