Work as a member of the community organizing team managing our youth organizing efforts, with a primary focus on youth organizing at Kelly High School and neighboring community schools. The Youth Organizer will work with parents to increase youth involvement and inclusion, address concerns of students and even parents, and promote positive policy changes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leadership development at Kelly School, neighboring community schools and Brighton Park Neighborhood Councils other policy agendas:
    • Assist in recruiting, and developing leaders, updating organizing staff, and meeting regularly with the core youth leaders, as well as the organizing team.
    • Organize and conduct leadership development workshops.
    • Conduct weekly meetings/workshops/trainings with youth at Kelly and connecting to other social justice movements BPNC is working on.
    • Develop youth leadership teams that will lead specific campaigns.
  • Expand youth leadership at Kelly High School and neighboring community schools.
  • Connect youth with leadership development opportunities both inside the school and in the community.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with students, teachers, administrators, and community leaders.
  • Work with youth leaders from LSCs, Youth teams, Drama teams, Dream Act team to discuss issues and concerns within their school and how youth can work together to address these issues.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools, students, and staff.
  • Participate in a variety of organizational initiatives including organizing efforts and media/outreach.
  • Participate in organizing team meetings, share knowledge and organizing experience, and take on new responsibilities as necessary.
  • Attend community meetings and other public events as appropriate.
  • All other duties assigned by supervisor and/or Director of Organizing.


  • Energetic and detail oriented team player.
  • Deep commitment to social justice issues.
  • Strong background in social justice or advocacy work.
  • Must be able to work well with others, be a good listener, and think creatively.
  • Desire to work in an environment that encourages community empowerment.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Flexible work schedule is needed, some weekends and evenings.
  • Social media experience is a plus.
