The essential purpose of the Digital Inclusion Intern position is to work as a member of the Connecting for Good team by refurbishing donated computers that are provided to low-income individuals who are participating in digital literacy programs, and to train people in group and one-to-one sessions.

Organization Description of Position
Connecting for Good (Refurbishing) This internship involves working in a computer workshop refurbishing donated computers that are then distributed to low-income families. A great opportunity to learn new tech skills, it also includes involvement in working with wireless networks and developing public access computer centers.
Connecting for Good (Digital Life Skills) This internship involves teaching online skills to first-time Internet users. The focus is on low-income inner-city residents, along with seniors and people with disabilities. Students must have good online skills and know their way around the Internet. A working knowledge of Google search, gmail, and Google apps is helpful.

  • Possess accurate typing and data entry skills
  • Working knowledge of Windows-based business computers and Microsoft Officer Programs; specifically, Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and control job responsibilities
  • Ability to be flexible to adapt to changing priorities and perform basic task work to meet deadlines
  • Proficient understanding of basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply divide)
  • Ability to read and comprehend printed data/information, and data/information displayed on PC monitor
  • Ability to recognize discrepancies in written/recorded data/information
  • Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and improve their training skills on an ongoing basis
  • Possess working analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Consistently demonstrates a commitment to Connecting for Good's policies and procedures, including but not limited to, attendance, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and ethical responsibilities
