This position is at the Gowanus E-Waste Warehouse in Brooklyn, one of the Lower East Side Ecology Center's main programs. Candidates for this position are people interested in working with the community members that come to the warehouse in search of volunteer opportunities. A candidate should be comfortable with providing training to volunteers, as well as working alongside volunteers, for the various workstations that support the warehouse's operations. Candidates should be comfortable with performing outreach to attract new volunteers, with working with past volunteers, and with collaborating amongst both to encourage an enjoyable team environment. Candidates should also be comfortable with coordinating volunteer orientations and schedules.

The program operates in a warehouse in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn - candidates should be comfortable working in a warehouse environment. The warehouse is open from Tuesday to Saturday - candidates should be available to work on these days.

Job Responsibilities

  • Get training for various workstations
    1. Sorting e-waste
    2. Testing electronics
    3. Minor repair of electronics
    4. Disassembly, inventory, storage of e-waste and components
  • Provide above training to volunteers
  • Maintain volunteer schedules
  • Coordinate/moderate volunteer orientations
  • Coordinate volunteer appreciation events
  • Recruit new volunteers
    1. Maintain online profiles
    2. Attend conferences/fairs
    3. Coordinate table displays
  • Train/refresh existing/returning volunteers
  • Manage volunteers to work independently, and in teams, to perform the work needed to support warehouse operations
  • Coordinate volunteer training sessions
  • Perform social media posting to highlight volunteer work at the warehouse


  • Demonstrated interest in reusing/recycling electronics
  • Availability - Tuesday through Saturday
  • Good writing, communications, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction for volunteers

Preferred Capabilities

  • Experience coordinating volunteers is a plus
  • Occasional Sunday availability is a plus
