The San Antonio unit is taking a sabbatical year off for the 2021-22 MVS year. 

The RAICES Legal Assistant assists refugee families from Africa, Asia and Latin America to complete and prepare applications for U.S. Lawful Permanent Residence. He or she will also spend mornings at the nearby San Antonio Immigration Court to receive referrals from immigration court judges for individuals who are in removal (formerly called deportation) proceedings. The Legal Assistant will occasionally travel to the South Texas Detention Complex, one of the nation's largest immigration detention centers, to assist attorneys with legal screenings and intake.

In addition to the activities described above, the Legal Assistant will have opportunities to work with asylum-seekers, unaccompanied immigrant juveniles, and survivors of crime, including domestic violence and human trafficking.

This internship is intended for individuals considering a career in law or social work. RAICES staff will provide supervision and training related to the immigration and legal issues related to the routine duties of the Legal Assistant. Eligible applicants must be comfortable speaking and writing in both the English and Spanish languages.
