Casa Alterna is a hospitality house offering faithful acts of mercy and justice alongside our first-wave Latinx immigrant neighbors. Service opportunities may include tutoring children from families with limited English proficiency, teaching English to first-wave immigrants primarily from Guatemala, home improvements, transportation assistance, and visiting detained immigrants. Being bilingual is not required but those who are may also be able to offer interpretation services. Individuals with administrative gifts and web design and management would be a bonus. Lodging: Casa Alterna can provide accommodations in our guest bedroom. The rest of the dwelling, including the kitchen and bathroom, would be shared space. Housing is on a second floor so must be able to climb stairs. There is no cost to volunteers for lodging and food, but donations are gladly accepted. There is no public transportation so a personal vehicle would probably be a necessity. Again, being fluent in Spanish is helpful, but not required.
